Running Sheep Photo

From sheep-shearing to anvil shooting,
there's plenty to do at the

Museum of Appalachia!

In addition to our annual events--Tennessee Fall Homecoming,
the Spring Sheep Shearing, July 4th Celebration and Anvil Shoot,
and Christmas in Old Appalachia--
we frequently have things going on that you'll not want to miss!

Our Porch Musician Project (funded in part by the Tennessee Arts Commission's "Art Builds Communities" program) provides live, daily performances of authentic old-time music to the thousands of people who tour the Museum each year, often introducing visitors to a type of music they've never before heard.  We're proud of our Porch Musician Project and believe that it makes a valuable contribution to the preservation of our traditions and history.  It's also a very popular feature of the regular Museum tour; visitors often comment on how much the live music adds to the Museum experience.

2010 Homecoming Auditions
March 6, 2010

It’s a great day to visit—there’s plenty of extra music!
Applicants should pre-register by March 1. Call or visit the website for an application; fee is $10 per group or individual.

Auditioning musicians and dancers admitted free; for others, admission to the auditorium during auditions is only $5 per person for all-day entertainment.

Spring Heritage Day
April 16, 2010

This interactive program is provided to students in public and private schools, home-schooled groups, and families. This event will include seasonal activities such as spring plowing and planting, sheep shearing, spinning, and weaving. Call the Museum to register.

Girl Scout Day
April 17, 2010

“Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without” is the theme of this special event for regional Girl Scouts.  Activities, demonstrators, and Museum artifacts will illustrate the ingenuity of our forebears. Call the Museum to register.

When shopping on line, please remember Shopformuseums.com. It’s a website that allows on-line vendors to make customer-directed contributions to non-profit organizations. Please consider making the Museum of Appalachia the recipient of a Shopformuseums.com donation. It’s based on a percentage of your purchase, and there’s no extra cost to you
